United Biscuits is a leading European manufacturer of biscuits and snacks, with well-known brands including McVitie’s, Jacob’s, Go Ahead!, McCoy’s, KP and Hula Hoops. Group headquarters is in Hayes, Middlesex and the company employs 10,000 people across 16 locations in London, UK and Europe.
Maternity Cover - 14 month contract
United Biscuits was acquired in December 2006 by private equity companies Blackstone and PAI Partners. The company is performing well, with further scope to drive efficiencies throughout the business.
Reporting to the Group HRD, the incoming Corporate HR Director will lead and develop a team of HR Business Partners, Advisers and Administrators in a context of cultural and structural change. UBHR is transitioning to a service delivery model and the wider business is funding growth internally, by driving cost savings. There is a focus on building organization and HR capability and on driving performance within the competitive food sector.
Internal clients are spread across the UK and Ireland and include an International Sales force of c50 people, who are widely dispersed across Europe, The Middle East, Africa and The Americas.
Key Result Areas
- Lead and develop a professional HR team as it transitions to a service delivery model.
- Deliver a business aligned, value-added HR service to corporate Head Office, Sales, Procurement, Technical and Marketing staff spread across multiple locations, with emphasis on the UK and Ireland.
- Manage the implications of restructuring and relocating populations and of harmonizing terms and conditions.
- Work with colleagues to link reward more closely to performance, focusing on sales incentives and benefits plans.
- Provide coaching and development support to the HR team, building confidence and capability to adapt to a changing environment.
- Build the UB employer brand, including CSR and employee wellbeing initiatives.
Candidate Profile
- Graduate calibre, commercial, senior HR generalist, with experience gained in large, complex, changing businesses. Exposure to fast-moving FMCG environments would be useful.
- Track record of successful people and project management, ideally with knowledge and experience of the Ulrich HR shared services model.
- Strong generalist skill-set including IR, ER, performance and reward, resourcing and change management.
- Hands-on, operational HR knowledge and experience with strategic understanding of organisation design and building capability.
- Pragmatic, can-do with evidence of achieving results in a cost conscious business.
