HR Business Partner - Activity Sector

c£55-60k +bonus + benefits

TUI Travel PLC was formed following the successful completion of the merger of First Choice Holidays PLC and the Tourism Division of TUI AG on 3rd September 2007.

TUI Travel operate in over 180 countries worldwide employing 50,000 people and serving more than 30 million customers in over 20 source markets offering a wide range of leisure travel experiences. 

The Activity sector focuses on three specialist market segments – Marine, Adventure and Experiental.  The HR Business Partner, Activity Sector will work across these segments which attract almost 400,000 customers per year and employ approximately 3,300 staff.

This is an exciting and challenging role and provides the opportunity to work in a large global business that is entrepreneurial and acquisitive.  The Activity Sector consists of a diverse and creative group of businesses and senior stakeholders and will afford the opportunity to work across the globe with companies providing alternative and specialist product offerings. 

Based in the South East, with considerable UK and overseas travel, the main purpose of the HR Business Partner - Activity Sector will be to manage a business orientated Human Resource function serving the client groups within the Sector. The role is responsible for shaping strategy as well as being “hands on” operationally.

Key Result Areas

  • Closely support the Portfolio Managing Directors and Senior teams as their objective observer and trusted confidante.
  • Provide direction to Managing Directors on organisation issues, change initiatives and structure to meet business requirements and objectives.
  • Provide advice guidance and recommendations to senior management with regard to legislative issues for particular areas of the business e.g. employee relations, employment law and health and safety.
  • To support and promote the up-skilling of senior teams in order to drive the performance culture throughout the Sector.
  • With fellow management team develop and drive HR, L&D and Recruitment initiatives and align HR strategy with business imperatives e.g. performance management, succession and career development. 
  • Manage, mentor and develop direct reporting staff.  Drive an advisory premise and ensure appropriate allocation of workload/casework.
  • Identify and develop opportunities to move closer to a “business partnering” model increasing the Advisors’ exposure to the business.

Candidate Profile  

  • Commercially aligned HR professional.
  • Focuses on value adding initiatives.
  • Ability to identify the business requirement, and ensure the provision of the necessary tools, policies and practices.
  • Knowledge of up-to-date HR best practice Employee Relations, Employment Law, Recruitment and Selection, Reward Management and Learning and Development.
  • Understanding of the added value HR makes to the business partnership, vision, strategy and policies.
  • Multi site/Country experience.
  • Capability to deal with complex business/function and HR agenda.
  • High level of drive, energy and tenacity.
  • Strong influencing and communication skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness – able to participate in the business strategy.
  • Ability to build and maintain credible relationships with Key Senior Managers.
